Always pay for proof of receipt from post office!! We sent an entire insurance check to them for more than balance of loan when house burned down.

Police did find the teens who did it and we had report to prove this. I assumed they would pay off the loan, send us the proceeds, since it was for more than the balance, along with the release. The ins. check was made out to us and them, as they, were the lien holder.

No-they did not. Ocwen held that check for approx. 8 months and would not apply it to pay off our loan!! They try to make you sign forms stating they could "re-instate" the loan at their discretion, was it ever discovered their were any construction loans, or such, against or property.

We were well aware there were not, but beware, these can be filed by ANYONE, retroactive the to work done, within a year or more, (depending on state) with only receipts... NO WAY were we signing any such documents! Thank goodness I had bought a receipt from post office that made them sign proving the day they received our check! -Over $70,000.00, which they held on to for all those months, while they continued to charge late fees, interest charges, as if payments were still due them, but not made!!

They were holding the check and acting like we were just not paying the mortgage. I finally started emailing the CEO, and ccing to their many VPs I found on-line. I had spent HOURS documenting calls to their "reps" -it took me a while to figure out I was speaking reps in India... ask what state they're in, then only speak to department in your own country.

Gave me the run-around for months and made a fool of me. I was upset, had cried, begged, listened to false promises, passed on to this dept and that one. It was completely unnerving. I feel like such an *** when I look back on all of it..

If not for knowing when they received our check by the post office recpt, i supposed they could have jerked us around for years. Still, they didn't send back one penny, even though it was for more than the loan, they found "fees" to apply the overage to, and STILL tried to say it wasn't enough, but that they would "forgive" that thousand or so.. BEWARE. They are not your hometown bank and DO NOT CARE if you pay ahead, in full, or on time.

At least, that was our experience. near the end, we didn't care if the kept the extra $$, we just wanted it to be over. oh, that loan mod thing..

our pmt went UP. Never let them buy you loan...
